Let’s look into your options.
San Diego’s Public Transportation System:
a. Bus Services:
San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) operates an extensive network of buses that connect Balboa Park to various neighborhoods and key locations throughout the city. With multiple bus stops in close proximity to the park, one can easily hop on a bus to explore different parts of San Diego. The convenience of bus transportation allows for flexibility and accessibility. If you are coming in from Mission/Fashion Valley, take Route 120. From City College, take Route 7, and from Mid-City, Normal Heights, University Heights, North Park and Hillcrest, take Route Rapid 215 to get to Balboa Park.
b. Trolley Services:
The iconic San Diego Trolley system is another integral part of the city’s public transportation. The Orange and Blue Lines of the trolley network somewhat limited connectivity to Balboa Park. To date, the trolley system has yet to actually connect to some terminal(s) located within Balboa Park boundaries, so you may need to arrive at an adjacent trolley hub either in Mission Valley, Downtown, or Little Italy, then switch to a bus or shared ride service to continue to Balboa Park. The Trolley mode of transportation is not only efficient, it also offers passengers the chance to enjoy scenic views of the city during their journey.
c. Pronto Card:
Both the MTS and the Trolley system use the Pronto Mobile App or Card as form of payment. As an added bonus, persons 18 and under can ride for free on Youth Opportunity Pass
d. Balboa Park Tram:
